Wonders of Europe
7Wonders.org is a project, that attempts to revive the spirit of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, with a modern list, which includes in addition to the ancient
wonders, the New Seven Wonders established in Lisbon on July 7, 2007, the Middle
Age Wonders, the Civil Engineering Wonders, the Man-made Wonders, the Natural Wonders,
the Underwater Wonders and the Wonders of each country.
Europe, the Old World and the cradle of Western thought. It is part of the geographic
continent Eurasia. Europe is the third most populous continent after Asia and Africa
with around 11% of the world’s population. It is the continent where the idea of
the Seven Wonders was born, in the classical cultures: Greece and Rome and where
the spirit of wonders was conserved during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
European nations dominated the world from XVI century to earlier XX century, teaching
for all the world the idea of identifying the wonders of each place. European countries
are still now amongst the most powerful in the world. Europe is also the continent
with the highest GDP and the highest levels of education. From Lisbon to Moscow
and from Oslo to Sicily, there are many wonderful landmarks and landscapes in the entire continent.
In Europe the culture and the spirit of the seven wonders is felt every where, in
the old cities, in the amazing palaces, inside the ancient churches, listening old
tales. These are the wonders of the old continent.
